You may or may not have heard all the buzz about detox teas lately, but one thing’s for certain, they are SUPER popular with celebrities and social media stars. Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, you name it – these teas are plastered and endorsed everywhere and anywhere.
Being so into health and wellness myself, I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I decided to give one of these teas a go. I don’t like to put anything in my body that’s unnatural or that has a lot of additives so after careful research I chose to go with a 100% natural, 2-step herbal detox – Flat Tummy Tea. While it doesn’t make any crazy weight loss promises this tea does however, promise to help cleanse your system, support your metabolism, reduce bloating and boost energy.
So, what’s actually in it?
Step 1 – Activate Tea – Contains: Peppermint (leaf), Lemon Balm (leaf), Liquorice (root), Dandelion (leaf and root), Cleavers (leaf), Fennel (seed), Green Tea (leaf), Caraway (seed), Cardamom (pods).
Step 2 – Cleanse Tea – Contains: Senna (leaf), Peppermint (leaf), Cassia Chamaecrista (pods), Liquorice (root), Caraway (seed), Dandelion (root), Rhubarb (root).
Initially I was a bit skeptical to try this tea so I went with a 2-week pack ($46.69 CAD) instead of the 4-week one ($63.56 CAD). I also wasn’t sure how my body would respond so I didn’t want to spend the extra money just incase the reaction wasn’t so stellar.
Here are my key takeaways after completing the 2-week cleanse:
It’s really easy to use and follow.
As I had mentioned above, this tea contains a 2-step process. Every morning you drink 1 cup of the ACTIVATE AM tea with breakfast. You place 1 teaspoon of it into a tea strainer, infuse in a cup of hot water for 5-7 minutes, remove the strainer and drink.
During the first week, you drink the CLEANSE PM tea every other night before bed. For the following week(s), you drink it every third night before bed. Again, it’s super simple. You place 1 teaspoon of it into a tea strainer, infuse in a cup of hot water for 3-5 minutes, remove the strainer and drink.
Side Note: Both are loose leaf so you just need a strainer to infuse the leaves. Since Flat Tummy Tea doesn’t supply a strainer nor do they have one that you can purchase with your tea, I personally used a strainer from David’s Tea.
It actually tastes quite good.
To my surprise I didn’t have to add any honey or sugar to it. It’s a naturally sweet tea with an herbal flavour and I quite enjoyed the taste.
It impacted my stomach and bowel movements, but it didn’t hurt or ruin my stomach.
As promised, this tea had a very gentle cleansing effect and I definitely became more regular with regards to my bowel movements. I didn’t feel any pain, nor did I notice any harm done to my stomach after I completed the 2-week stint.
Side Note: If you’re worried about the cleansing effect you can weaken or strengthen the effects by infusing the tea for less or more time.
I felt less bloated and even a little thinner, but it didn’t feel like I had lost a noticeable amount of weight.
This product does not vow that it is a weight loss tea and this certainly was the case. I did however, notice that I was less bloated and looked and felt thinner. This tea made me feel really good and worked well in getting rid of toxins that built up in my body.
It gave me a lot of energy and helped reduce cravings.
Although there is the tiniest amount of caffeine in the Activate tea and there is absolutely none in the Cleanse tea, I did feel super energetic throughout the process. This was most likely due to the removal of toxins from my body resulting in feeling less sluggish. I also noticed that I stopped craving starchy foods and sweets, which is my biggest weakness!
My Final Thoughts…
Overall, I would highly recommend this tea as I had amazing results and have been using it now for the past little while whenever I feel I’m in the need of a good detox. Keep in mind you should always check with your doctor if you have any concerns or medical conditions before starting any sort of cleanse.
